I am Paul Watson. My family has gardened for 7 generations. Chef Marla Holland's paternal grandfather farmed. The 3rd member of our team, Major Warren, has extensively studied traditional, southern US gardening techniques and Korean natural farming practices.
Our Aim... is to interest and educate those who desire to grow their own food.
Whether your growing in a bucket on an apartment balconey, an inner city postage stamp sized back fill dirt yard, rock hard clay or 12" deep of compost. Raised beds or in ground... we're here to help you grow an abundant harvest. We will share our... learning expierences... its rare that everything grows well every year.
Join us for this gardening year
My Grandpa's farmed. The tractor with its back to us in the picture, a David Brown 990 has been in my family since the 1980's. The green tractor to the left of it, I acquired in 2023. My Uncle, Eugene Crockett, plowed my 1st garden on the farm with it when I lived on the farm for my 1st year of marriage in 2001. I plowed my 1st garden with the green tractor...last year.
My family has farmed, this land... My grandpa, and his Dad before him.
But my story is not unique. Many of us come from farming and gardening back grounds. More people than you might think either own land or want a piece of land.
If you sell a Woman (or Man) some farm fresh healthy vegetables.... they eat well for a few days.
If you teach them how to grow... then generations (living witness) can eat well.
If you can Teach them to farm, they will have the skills to have self sufficiency if thats what they want.
Whether you want to grow a tomato in a flower pot or cultivate 10 acres, We can help.
USDA defines a farm as any place that produced and sold—or normally would have produced and sold—at least $1,000 of agricultural products during a given year. USDA uses acres of crops and head of livestock to determine if a place with sales less than $1,000 could normally produce and sell at least that amount.Jan 5, 2025
Our Blogs... we're planning on 4... is where we document the process. If you drive past 6000 East Capital Street or if you would like to schedule an appointment to drive to Culpepper... and I think there will be one more spot... you will be able to look and see and smell... and pick...
Whats in the pictures and video clips.
We will talk about what we're doing, show how we're doing it... the overview.
The Classes are where we'll get into the details.
Our 4th farmer is currently working on a Masters in Agriculture,
Chef Marly has taken almost if not every gardening related class that Univ of DC school of agriculture offers and is certified for all of them
Major Warren has extensively studied regenerative farming practices from around the world
I... I have sat at the feet and walked through the fields and woods with my Elders. Who first started farming in the southwest corner of Virginia around the year 1805.
